Bubby and I moved to La Veta on August 1, 2004 and held our first church service
on August 1, 2005. The very first service was held at the creek below our home.
Only a handful of people came, but what excitement filled our hearts as we
began the journey of pioneering the second Feed Store Church. For the next
couple of months, we had church in a man's construction shop, and held children's
and youth ministries on the front lawn. As winter approached, we moved to a
local 4-H barn to hold services. Children's and youth ministries met in a metal
barn with a dirt floor. Needless to say, no one brought their kids to church
in their Sunday's best. Instead, sweatshirts, jeans and winter jackets were
more the attire. Church was held at the 4-H barn for a year. By this time,
about one hundred kids and adults were attending most every Sunday night. A
wonderful couple then began to help us build a building. In September 2006
we had church in our newly built building. We outgrew the building within a
month of the first service. We are now busting at the seams and continuously
looking at creative ways to expand.
